The “Reggie" in Reggie Song is a real person and a good friend of John Lydon’s from the multicultural melting pot of Finsbury Park in North London where they both grew up.
Out of the Woods is about Stonewall Jackson, one of America’s greatest generals and a tactical genius, who against overwhelming odds, helped win the battle of Chancellorsville in the War for Southern Independence.
Reggie Song / Out Of The Woods is self-funded by PiL and will be released on PiL’s own label ‘PiL Official’ via Cargo UK Distribution (Red Eye USA). All the new material was recorded in the UK last year at Steve Winwood’s studio in the Cotswolds.

PiLOfficial.Com have revealed that PiL have finished recording their new studio album. The still as yet untitled album is set for release next year; with a recent Clash Magazine article predicting a March release.
The Clash Magazine article mentions tracks with the working titles 'One Drop', 'The Reggie Song' & 'Deeper Waters'. The album was written and produced by PiL and features John Lydon (naturally), Bruce Smith, Lu Edmonds and Scott Firth and was recorded at Steve Winwood's Wincraft Studios in the Cotswolds, England in July and August 2011.
NME magazine dated September 20th also carried a John Lydon interview from the recording studio previewing the record. PiLOfficial.Com have now posted both interview features to their Press Archive section.
The November issue of Mojo magazine features an excellent 6 page article on the making of PiL's 'Album' album including new interviews with John Lydon, Bill Laswell, Jebin Bruni & Mark Schulz; plus some rare pictures. Mojo describes the record as "one of the most complex, bracing rock LP's of modern times...".
The article also includes a page on the recording of the new studioalbum; including pictures of the band in the studio. John Lydon comments on the album: "It is a new chapter, of sorts. I sing differently now, much more soulfully. Deeper. My range has expanded. 'Cos I get more time to think about it more. It's about an explanation of life. I will always be an individual. I have no need to copy or be influenced by anybody else. Though I love the work of many people, it doesn't explain my life. And what I do is my explanation of my life. Lets hope we shall be rewarded for this."
Finnish TV Channel YFE broadcast two special shows on the legendary Glasnost Rock - Rock Summer 88 festival in Estonia where PiL played to over 120,000 people at the very first Rock Summer; when Estonia was still part of USSR.
A documentary, broadcast September 3rd, featured a new interview with John Lydon recorded this year. Along with a live compilation show featuring previously unbroadcast footage of PiL performing 'Public Image' and 'Rise' from Rock Summer 88; plus further interview footage. The documentary also features clips of 'Public Image', 'Home' and 'Rise'. Stunning footage from a monumental life-changing concert.
Sons of Norway(formerly known as Theory or Practice) the independent Norwegian movie John Lydon filmed a special appearance for in 2010 had its official premiere at the Toronto Film Festvial September 9th. John attended the screening, and a Q&A for the film the following day.
The film is based on the 'Theory or Practice' book by author Nicolai Frobenius and deals with Nicolai's adolescent relationship with his father as he rebels with music and the Sex Pistols in the suburbs of Norway. John plays himself in the film.
Sons of Norway was directed by acclaimed Norwegian director Jens Lien, and produced by Christian Fredrik Martin & Friland Produksjon. John Lydon and Asle Vatn are executive producers.
Jah Wobble has a new album set for release on November 14th via Cherry Red Records. 'Psychic Life' is a collaboration with vocalist Lesley Campbell (aka Lonelady) and also features contributions from Keith Levene - the first time the pair have appeared on record since 1990's Gary
Clail / On-U-Sound System: Beef.
The CD will be preceded by a 4 track download EP on October 10th featuring 'Tightrope' as the lead track. A low-budget video of the track has been posted on YouTube featuring Wobble, Levene & Campbell. The album also has its own website at www.psychiclife.org.uk. The Quietus also recently previewed the album.
It would be easy to say that Levene and Wobble swore never to work again under any circumstances. But last year unfortunately proved otherwise...
Former PiL photographer Dennis Morris published an unofficial PiL photo book in Japan earlier this year. 'A Bitta PIL' was published by Parco in Tokyo. According to GrafikMag.Com a limited amount of copies were made available in the UK in September. Apparently the 96 page paperback was a tie-in with a PiL photo exhibition Morris held at the Tokyo, Parco Factory in March-April 2011.
August 5th 2011
PiLOfficial.Com recently posted the first pictures of PiL in the recording studio. BBC6 Music News also ran a special behind-the-scenes interview with John Lydon from the studio on July 28th. You can still listen to the interview, and also read outakes, on the BBC6 Music website...

PiL won the "Outstanding Contribution to Music" Award at Thursday's Mojo Honours List in London. John Lydon was there to collect the award. Watch John's speech below.
After the awards John revealed details of a serious house fire at his London home. Thankfully no one was hurt. John was on tour with PiL when Nora called to tell him. A faulty spin dryer is thought to be the cause of the blaze! “It started when the spin dryer caught on fire and all the clothes went up in flames. The first time I actually get clean look what happens."
An interview with John was published yesterday at Mail online.
Mail online, July 23rd 2011
By Ben Todd
He has long been renowned as a hell-raiser. However, punk legend John Lydon, 55, has now become very much the victim after a fire - which he and his wife believe was caused by their tumble-drier - destroyed his kitchen.
The former Sex Pistols frontman – aka Johnny Rotten - has told how the kitchen of his west London home was ruined by the fire.
There was also smoke damage throughout the four-bedroomed property.
Lydon and his wife Nora Forster believe the fire occurred because of a fault in their tumble drier as, they claim, it was the only device on when the incident took place.
The incident happened at the end of last month and the whole house has been damaged.
Since, then the couple – who split their time between their houses in Los Angeles and London - have been living without an electricity or water supply.
Yesterday, workmen were in the process of rebuilding the house in Fulham.
Lydon was in Russia with his band PiL at the time. However, Miss Forster – who he has been married to for 33 years – was at home.
And he yesterday told the Mail that finding out his wife, 69, was safe and well was the ‘best news’ of his life.
Lydon told the Mail: ‘We were gutted and so was the kitchen. Nora was rushing around back in London while I was rushing around in Russia with PiL’
‘Learning Nora was not harmed was the best news I have ever had in my life.
‘The fire was caused by the spin drier, which had my underwear in it at the time, it obviously wasn't fire retardant.’
He told how Nora rang him to break the news. He explained: ‘[She] said 'Oh John, I don't want to disturb you. The house has burnt down.'
The star also told how he lost some song he had written for PiL’s forthcoming album in the house fire.
‘I lost some PiL songs I had written for the upcoming new PiL album in the fire. Luckily I have them all stored in my head,’ he added.
They are currently working on a studio album, their first in 20 years, leading to Lydon and Miss Forster to use their London home as their main base this summer.

PiLOfficial.Com have confirmed that PiL are back in the recording studio! The following article from The Quietus includes a quote from John Lydon that confirms that PiL are in a studio in "the outskirts of knowhere". The band are recording in the days between the latest live dates.
Word reaches the Quietus this Friday afternoon (from an official source) that John Lydon and PiL are currently working on new songs together. We've seen some terrific gigs from the reunited Public Image Limited over the past year or so, most recently at Primavera. But we are anti-nostalgists, and generally hope that returning groups either vanish again, or knuckle down to writing new material. Glad tidings, then, that PiL's John Lydon, Lu Edmonds (guitarist), Bruce Smith (drummer), and Scott Firth (bass) are in a studio in a location that Lydon describes as being "in the outskirts of knowhere". Lydon has previously written with Edmonds and Smith for later PiL albums Happy and 9' so both have played and worked John throughout the late 80s.
Lydon has long insisted that the PiL reunion was not solely about nostalgia, saying that the gigs were being done in part to fund studio time: "We've got no backing - no record company, no sponsors, nothing like that. The only way we can make money is the touring, and then we can make a new album," he told Billboard in 2010. "It's sort of like the old days of PiL, when the Pistols went kaput; I had to scrimp and scrape out of my own pocket. Not much has changed."
Asked back then if he had songs ready, Lydon said, "Yeah, I've got piles. I never stop writing. Most of my influences have never really come from a musical act. It tends to be things like the poetic beat of a newscast. There's a rhythm to the way it's laid out. Movies can do that. Shakespeare and good poetry does that, and a bloody good book does that, or just a long walk." More on new material from PiL on The Quietus later this summer.
