Fodderstompf reader Christopher Oberphones supply's us with information regarding Virgin Records December 2009 re-issue of 'Plastic Box'.
I recently bought the reissued 'Plastic Box' set, and wondered if you were aware of the differences in the reissued version? They might be useful for the site.
Firstly, the new version has discs marked PILBOXXX 1, PILBOXXX 2 etc, in place of the old code. Secondly, the booklet is now only eight pages long, and contains only the Lydon quotes, with no images. Your site mentions the original booklet being 36 pages and including pictures of various PiL sleeves and promotional items. Thirdly, the PVC covering is missing from the new issue, which comes in only a standard 2CD jewelcase.
As previously mentioned, Fodderstompf
reader Edward
Thompson has also posted some pictures
on his blog of
the 3 CD remastered 'Metal
Box'
– which was reissued along with 'Plastic Box' in December 2009.
Thanks to Christopher Oberphones & Edward Thompson |

Mark Woodley reports back on the ongoing search for mystery PiL drummer Vivian Jackson...
Just looking through piles of Clash stuff for any updates for the 'Route 19 Revisited' book and found mention of that other mystery PiL drummer Vivian Jackson, seems they had him lined up for the scrapped Dublin gig, still weird how he's went awol, so did a quick search on musicians who worked with LKJ in the 70s and found a likely contender:
Vivian Weathers, a jack of all trades in the studio, was on the Poet & The Roots;"Dread Beat An' Blood" album and also in 1978 had a solo album out called "Bad Weathers" on Virgin Records where he not only sang but played percussion........ bet its him !?
Fodderstompf note: Mystery solved? Could it be? Years ago we contacted LKJ and he said he couldn't remember a Vivian Jackson, it's possibly becuase we actually meant Vivian Weathers? To confuse things (surely not) Vivian is not credited with drums on his solo album or 'Dread Beat An' Blood', but does get a credit on 'Bad Weathers' for percussion.
Thanks to Mark Woodley |

Update on live 1992 bass player Russell Webb (who was brought in by John McGeoch for the remainder of the tour due to Alan Dias' departure).
Russell's friend Wayne Sadlier contacted us to see if anyone can help them with an archive they are working on. They are looking for live, demo or bootleg recordings of Russell in bands such as The Zones, Skids and The Armoury Show etc.
Wayne informs us that Russell now lives in Somerset and is a qualified hypno-therapist. He also designs and builds furniture. Russell has recently returned to music and plays locally at acoustic and open-mic nights. He has began writing songs again and also has plan for a book. Which will "not only tell his life story
but also the life story of his best mate Ian McGeoch... better known as John McGeoch".
Wayne can be contacted via the MySpace he runs for Russell at www.myspace.com/russellwebbmusic

The Current, October, 1984 -
Lydon Interview. Sent in by Fodderstompf reader Kathi Gelona, who interviewed John Lydon for The Current; which was George Washington University's alternative newspaper. The interview has never been re-printed since, and is featured in its entirety.
Kathi has also confirmed there was indeed an all ages show the same day at Boston, The Channel, October 9th 1982.

Fodderstompf reader
Tim Bucknall spotted
this mention of the mythical re-recorded
version of the 'Public
Image - First Issue'
album for Warner Brothers in 1979
on the SteveHoffman
message board from someone who claims to
have actually heard it.
"I can confirm the above,
plus two otherwise unheard tunes,
a new vocal version of "Fodderstompf," a
stellar take on "Annalisa," a
bubbly instrumental version of "Lowlife" and
a short, psychedelic "Theme." I
don't recall the version of "Religion," but
there was a more "serious" version
of "Cowboy Song" (the
b-side of the "Public Image" 7")
and one more I don't recall at
all, except that it wasn't too
great. I remember thinking "Public
Image" was about the same
as the original. One of the unheard
tunes did show up, in part, on
Jah Wobble's "Betrayal" album,
minus a great guitar part and Lydon's
vocals. Overall, this album - inasmuch
as it was complete - was a giant
step up from the original debut,
and a worthy partner to "Metal
Box." I'd love to hear it
again."
