See
articles
for 2 major new features by journalist,
and major PiL fan, Greg Whitfield.
'Bass
Cultural Vibrations: Visionaries,
Outlaws, Mystics and Chanters'
This is a very in-depth article,
covering not just PiL, but the whole
Post-Punk / Avant-Garde / Dub scene.
In this extensive and highly detailed
article Greg covers the origins
of the Dub/Punk crossover from Jamaica
to London. PiL and their entourage
feature heavily throughout. Along
with the likes of Jah Shaka, Adrian
Sherwood and Lee Perry, bringing
the story up to date with London's
Disciples and More Rockers.
The
whole article comes from a fresh
perspective, not simply retreading
the usual bollocks. For example,
among the 'PiL' subjects covered
are John's trip to Jamaica,
The Steel Leg EP, and the
often ignored PiL / On-U-Sound
crossover, I'm sure all PiL/Dub
fans will love it!
The
article has just been published
at the on-line '3AM Magazine'.
Check it out here.
However, the Fodderstompf version
is far more in-depth, including
many extra points on PiL. Kindly
added by Greg exclusively
for us...
Greg's
second article is a new Don Letts
interview. Again,
not solely focussing on PiL. Greg
discuses Don's career from the pre-Roxy
days, through punk (including the
Pistols, Lydon & PiL), up to
his present day film and DJ work.
Although Don has done plenty of
interviews in the past regarding
punk, and especially The Clash,
this interview concentrates more
on the man himself, and his love
for reggae, and what it means to
be 'Black British'.
Greg
Whitfield is currently
engaged in researching and writing
a book on the avant garde/sound
system and bass culture, which has
been emerging out of London over
the last twenty-five years up until
the present time. Watch this space
for updates... |

with 1983 Cabaret band keyboard

Ok,
you've heard it all before, the
Keith Levene interview...
I'm redoing the interview with Keith
soon. The last one was so disjointed,
all we did was sit and chat, and
listen to his stuff. It was very
difficult to type up, then I got
involved in all the Sex Pistols
stuff, and Keith got caught up in
his EP. It's just a case of me and
Keith getting the time to do it,
we're both all over the place at
the moment, but there are plans
to get it together very soon, honest! |

Ever
wanted to ask original PiL drummer
Jim
Walker a question? Well, now you
can...
Jim has set up a
special e-mail address for
people to get in touch. With the exception
of our recent Fodderstompf
interview, Jim has remained very
elusive over the years, here's your
chance to contact him while you can.
This is a very genuine, probably one-off,
chance not to be missed. Contact him

Info
via Happy Squid Records on Keith
Levene's input on the abandoned
Radwaste 'Project Jolt' album...
Thanks to Karsten
& John at Happy Squid Records!
Keith
produced the backing tracks for
this record, during a difficult
period for the band. The project
was set aside for a year, then completed
by Vitus Matare, (Keith had moved
back to London at this point) who
had engineered the backing tracks.
By the time the record had been
finished, the band had reformed
with different personnel and Happy
Squid didn't have the resources
to issue it. We may indeed release
it as a limited-edition item someday,
perhaps a CD-R. |

Chronology
(finally!) Updated
We're
no longer stuck in 1985! The PiL
Chronology has been updated
and runs from 1978-2001.
The chronology will be under
constant reconstruction. It's
an ongoing project, it'll probably
never be complete the way we want
it, but rather than holding it back
till we are eventually happy with
it, we have decided to put it on-line
and continually tinker with it.
More information, dates, links,
and pictures (etc) will be added
over a period of time...
If you spot any mistakes or have
any additions please contact us!
To save pointless repetition
many of the live dates have
not been included, you will find
them all at the Gig
List. Only gigs deemed to be
important, or eventful, have made
the chronology. Same goes for information
on PiL records. Only a minimal
amount of information has been included
on all releases. Full information
can be found at the Discography.
The
majority of the chronology was put
together by Karsten Roekens
& Scott M. However, much of
the old chronology started by M
& Dave K survives. We
gratefully thank everyone who has
contributed. |

Karsten
Roekens has taken over the running
of Radio Fodderstompf. He has already
updated the playlist. From now on
Radio Fodderstompf will be PiL and
related only...
As
well as hopefully bringing PiL to
a new audience Radio Fodderstompf
is meant as a companion to
the previously released PiL records,
by fans for fans... You won't just
find the normal studio versions
- you can go BUY them later
if you like these tracks. At Radio
Fodderstompf you'll find a wide
range of PiL and related tunes.
Stuff you won't find anywhere
else.
Lost Studio Tracks
Unreleased Live Tracks
Rare Remixes & B-sides
Obscure Solo Material - you name
it!
Radio
Fodderstompf spotlights the huge
diversity of PiL, and their many
offshoots. How many other bands
could get away with a whole radio
station dedicated to them? You'd
be bored in half an hour. Hardly
anything, if anything, broadcast
here sounds remotely the same...
The
FREE on-line internet station
is hosted by Radio 365,
and ran by our own Karsten
Roekens
24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
It's easy to use, and is well worth
checking out on a regular basis.
The
current playlist is listed below,
if you have any requests e-mail
us. Tracks are played in random order...
