JR US BookI picked up this US edition of John’s book, published by St Martin Press, fairly cheaply a few years ago. It’s virtually the same book as the UK edition except far more effort has been put into the presentation. I know in the grand scale of things it doesn’t really mater how it looks, it’s what it says, but I always found the layout of the UK edition really dull. In this edition the type is smaller, the paper is better quality, the headings are clearer, and instead of two photo sections, the pics are inserted throughout the text, making it far easier to read...

Most surprising of all there is also an extra intro where John personally gives info and details on all the photos used, it’s only a couple of pages, and much of it is the same as the captions in the UK edition, but it’s an interesting addition. John explains that he purposely chose pictures taken by friends and family rather than the more glossy professional types, to keep things more personal and real...
The cover is also different to the UK, it’s still the same Ian Dickson picture, which I always thought was a surprising choice, but this time it’s slightly larger, and instead of black & gold, it’s white, black & red, far smarter...

If you buy the UK edition today it’ll most likely still cost you full price, but if you look around bargain book shops etc, especially around London, you might be able to get the US edition far cheaper, they seem to be have been heavily imported, and are certainly worth getting...
