In
1989 Levene co-produced the debut album of West Coast punk band
Radwaste 'Project Jolt' (HAPPY SQUID RECORDS HS 018). However, the
album was never released. So embarrassed by the project Levene
had asked to be unaccredited.
John Talley-Jones (now
of The Urinals) told LA Weekly 25.6.99: "When I was in Radwaste
in the eighties, our producer, Keith Levene, and I were ushered
into a Capitol Records VP's office so he could tell us he "didn't
hear any hooks".
John at Happy Squid Records also told Fodderstompf: "Keith
produced the backing tracks for this record, during a difficult
period for the band. The project was set aside for a year, then
completed by Vitus Matare (Keith had moved back to London at this
point) who had engineered the backing tracks. By the time the record
had been finished, the band had reformed with different personnel
and Happy Squid didn't have the resources to issue it. We may indeed
release it as a limited-edition item someday, perhaps a CD-R." |
