Important V/A Compilations

PiL are featured on literally hundreds of various artist compilations; mostly using 'Public Image', 'Love Song' or 'Rise' etc. Therefore, we will only list what we consider the more important compilations. eg: albums featuring rare or previously unavailable material...

In the future we may add some of the weirder – or more unusual – compilations that feature bog-standard material...

MACHINES

VIRGIN V 2177

(10/80)

Features the previously unreleased track 'Pied Piper', written by Lydon, Levene & Steve New (credited as "Shooz"). Produced by Mick Glossop at the Manor Studios, Oxfordshire 1980.

(Budget Virgin sampler LP)

TROUBLEMAKERS

WARNER BROS PRO-A-857

(?/80)

Features 'Public Image ' & 'Swan Lake'. Worth mentioning due to the fact it also features two Sex Pistols tracks recorded live from Winterland, ('Anarchy in the UK' & 'No Fun'); their first official release. This was also the first official release of 'Public Image' in the USA.

This double LP was the first in a series of mail-order only "Loss Leaders" albums from Warners. The album featured a collection of new wave tracks from Warner Bros, Island & EMI; from the likes of Gang of Four, Wire & Buggles!

It's also worth noting that in the sleevenotes Warners stated that they backed PiL to the hilt, however, obviously this was not the case …

TROUBLEMAKERS LP

POINT BREAK

MCA MCD 10202

(11/91)

Soundtrack album, features the previously unreleased track 'Criminal'; written especially for the movie. 'Criminal' would have been the title track, but for time restrictions...

The track was written by Lydon, McGeoch & Dias, and produced by James 'Jimbo' Barton and recorded at Great Linford Studios in Milton Keynes, UK.

(CD & Cassette)

VOLUME THREE

VOLUME V3CD

(4/92)

Features 'Criminal' - This is supposedly a Dave Jerden remix of the track from the 'Point Break' soundtrack, but both versions sound exactly the same to me! However, the sleevenotes state that it also features Lu Edmonds & Bruce Smith, which seems highly unlikely.

(Limited edition CD only compilation, packaged as a CD sized book which also features a Lydon interview & photos)

AFTER THE ANARCHY

CONNOISSEUR
VSOPCD 188

(6/93)

Features 'Public Image' & 'This Is Not A Love Song' (LP Version), along with a brief PiL biography. Also features 'The Animal Speaks' & 'World Destruction'.

(Compilation of Post-Sex Pistols solo tracks)

(CD & cassette only)
